Thanks to the rise of the Internet, risk-related information is now abundant, cheap and almost instantaneous. Developing countries are competing to be seen as sufficiently transparent to attract foreign direct investment and portfolio capital. In this book I consider changing attitudes to country risk and the challenges associated with ranking and processing data.
There is a growing recognition, however, that SMEs will become an engine of economic transformation, job creation and income generation. If this is to happen in Burundi, sustainable solutions to these issues must be found. In this book I examine the current climate for small and medium enterprises in Burundi and how this might be made more accommodating so that the country as a whole can benefit from the entrepreneurial spirit of its citizens.
